H&S Speed Facer

Flanges being one of the most essential components of major industries like oil and gas, petrochemicals, and many more, it is important to prepare the surface accurately and safely to reduce leakages. Modern onsite machining facers like the H&S tool Speed Facer offers automatic flange facing with less manpower and completes the job in less time. In this article, we will highlight the benefits of facing flanges with H&S Speed Facers.

H&S Tools is a U.S.A based company owned by CLIMAX – Portable Machining and Welding Systems, which has more than 50 years of experience in designing precision tools for machining services like pipe cutting, boring, welding, milling and flange facing. After years of development, H&S has developed the Speed Facer which offers better safety and productivity in flange maintenance than competitor products. The remote feed control and automatic feed system keep the operator’s hands safe by allowing hands-free machining. The easy set-up makes it possible to achieve crate-to-cut within 15 minutes or less. Additionally, it offers the flexibility for higher metal removal, variable surface finishes, and creates a variety of cuts.

Three major benefits of the H&S Speed Facer

Power

With up to 3 HP pneumatic motor, the Speed Facer offers more power and speed that increases the metal removal rates allowing the operator to complete the job faster. The optimized drive reduction offers the desired speed range to use HSS tooling or carbide, for added performance and flexibility.

The infinitely variable feed rates from 0.001-0.032 inch/rev (0.025 – 0.813 mm/rev) offer operational flexibility for better metal removal and variable surface finish requirements. For maximum metal removal, the Speed Faceroffers multiple feed trippers to actuate the adjustable feed unit which allows aggressive feed rates.

Versatility

With the flexibility to choose from 10 models that service flanges from 30.5 – 120.5 inches (775 – 3061 mm) in diameter. The tool head and tool bit rotate 360 degrees independently to any angle allowing flexibility to create various cuts including o-rung grooves, chamfers, square shoulders, and other angled surfaces. Rotating the tool bit completely also allows the optimal tool bit positioning.

The option of a back-facing attachment provides more flexibility in machining operations for applications that have bridge obstructions or when servicing is required on the backside of the pipe flange or exchanger. Adding more to its versatility, removable feed trippers allow multiple mounting positions maximizing the ability to avoid obstructions.

The setup fingers and leveling feet allow for easy and quick alignment and setup of the machine reducing crane time.A reversible pneumatic motor can also be installed on the top or bottom of the machine depending on the operation or obstructions.

Safety

The auto-feed system is one of the key features in keeping the operator’s hands safe and completing the job smoothly and safely. Unlike other onsite machining facers, the Speed Facer keeps the hands of the operator away from the moving parts allowing it to operate completely automatic.

The bearing guard keeps debris and chips off the bearing and belt drive system. This protects the operator from entanglement and pinches hazards. Also, the low-pressure safety interlock system prevents unintended re-starts after the loss of supplied air pressure. All H&S pipe cutting and flange facing tools are CE certified to offer the highest safety and health assurance.

We hope this article helped you understand the unique offerings of H&S Speed Facers. Present in the industry for more than 45years, Speed Facers offer unmatched safety, versatility, and power when compared to the competition.
